Goodbye to Stability

In December 2019, I was buying crappy spruce/pine two by six lumber from Home Depot for $4.95 a piece. Today, just fifteen months later, the price is $11.55.

Alex Salmond, former leader of the Scottish National Party launched Alba, his own Scotch separatist party, to contest the forthcoming Scotch election, in an attempt to unseat the Scottish National (i.e., separatist) Party. 

But one thing that has not changed is that some Scotch Nat will probably tell me "Scotch is a drink," which it certainly is, but it is also an English term for things Scotch — or Scottish as the Scotch insist — and English happens to be the language I'm using here. 

Tesla's stock market capitalization still exceeds the value of all other car companies combined, despite near zero profits, a price earnings multiple of around 1000 (assuming that Tesla's reported profits are not as fake as its "full self-driving" software), and a collapse in European market share to under 10%. So anyone who thinks Tesla is a solid, stable, long-term investment, should probably give that thought further thought.

The English nation, now largely ruled by Indian ex-patriates, are to be denied the freedom to travel abroad either for edification or enjoyment, such travel being now subject to a five-thousand-pound fine. However, the penalty can, obviously, be avoided by remaining abroad forever, which may be the best option.

Having been outbid by Britain and the US for the untested Covid vaccine of questionable efficacy, the EU has now abandoned the sanctity of contract by seizing vaccine manufactured in the EU under contract to the British Government.

Meantime, Prince Harry, Sixth in line to the throne, continues his campaign to denigrate the British monarchy as racist, no fair (the bastards cut off my money and free security detail), and just generally, pathetic trapped animals.

At a time of such turbulence, one wonders if it can be long before white people resume killing one another, probably in the name of anti-racism, in a resumption of the 1914-1944 European civil war? 

The Ukies seem keen to have at it and the Biden Administration is in full support:

"The United States continues to stand with Ukraine and its allies and partners today, as it has from the beginning of this conflict. On this somber anniversary, we reaffirm a simple truth: Crimea is Ukraine," the Biden administration said on Feb.26.

"The United States does not and will never recognize Russia’s purported annexation of the peninsula, and we will stand with Ukraine against Russia’s aggressive acts." 

Meantime, the US Army is preparing to deploy, hypersonic missiles in Europe that can reach Russian targets in five minutes. In response, the Russians will presumably launch on warning. Is that suicidal, or what?

Oh, and the Chinese are now whinging about a US blood debt.

With no money, an ineffective navy, and plans to reduce the ground forces by about 10,000 soldiers that will bring the British military to its smallest size in two hundred years, it is not clear how London can achieve its great ambition of surrounding Russia in the Arctic, Baltic Sea, Western Balkans and the Black Sea.

The Death of the West: The Four Horsemen of America's Apocalypse

It takes a lot to build a civilization, and though it is much easier to destroy a civilization, it takes a lot to do that, too.

But now we have four roots of evil that are guaranteed to do so.

No. 1: Victimhood

The first is victimhood. The more people who regard themselves as victims -- as individuals or as a group -- the more likely they are to commit evil. People who think of themselves as victims feel that, having been victimized, they are no longer bound by normal moral conventions -- especially the moral conventions of their alleged or real oppressors.

Everyone knows this is true. But few confront this truth. Every parent, for example, knows that the child who thinks of him or herself as a perpetual victim is the child most likely to cause and get into trouble. And criminologists report that nearly every murderer in prison thinks of himself as a victim.

On a societal scale, the same holds true -- and being on such a larger scale, the chances of real evil ensuing are exponentially increased. One of the most obvious examples is Germany after World War I. Most Germans regarded themselves as victims -- of the Treaty of Versailles; of a "stab in the back" German government; of the British, Americans and French; and, of course, of the Jews. This sense of victimhood was one of the most important factors in the popularity of the Nazis, who promised to restore German dignity.

That millions of black Americans regard themselves as victims -- probably more so today than at any time in the past 50 years -- can only lead to disaster for America generally and for blacks specifically. While victims generally feel free to lash out at others, they also go through life angry and unhappy.

No. 2: Demonization

The second of the four ingredients of this civilization-destroying witches' brew is demonization -- demonizing a group as inherently evil.

That is being done now with regard to the white people of America. All -- again, all -- whites are declared racist. The only difference among them is that some admit it and some deny it. The notion that whites are inherently evil has long been associated with Louis Farrakhan. But it has apparently migrated out from his relatively small following to many blacks, even those who might consider Farrakhan a kook. Former President Barack Obama, hardly a Farrakhan follower, described America as having racism in its DNA. That is as close to inherently and irredeemably evil as it gets; you cannot change your DNA.

In that sense, not only are whites demonized, but America is, too. Unlike traditional liberals, the left regards America as a moral cesspool -- not only racist but, according to The New York Times, founded to be so. The New York Times has created a history of America that declares its founding not in 1776 but in 1619, when the first black slaves arrived. The American Revolution was fought, according to this malign narrative, not merely for American independence but in order to preserve slavery, a practice the British would have interfered with. This "history" will now be taught in thousands of American schools.

The combination of victimhood and demonization alone is dangerous enough. But there are still two more horsemen galloping toward the looming apocalypse.

No. 3: A Cause To Believe In

Most Americans throughout American history found great meaning in being American and in being religious -- usually Christian. Since World War II, we have lived in a post-Christian, post-nationalist age. Until very recently, Americans would have found the expression "for God and country" deeply meaningful; that term today, on the left, is risible and execrable.

But people need something to believe in. The need for meaning is the greatest human need after the need for food. Leftism, with all its offshoots -- feminism, environmentalism, Black Lives Matter, antifa -- has filled that vacuum. In Europe, communism, fascism and Nazism filled the hole left by the demise of nationalism and Christianity. Here it is leftism and its offshoots.

No. 4: Lies

The fourth and most important ingredient necessary for evil is lies. Lies are the root of evil. Ironically, slavery itself was made possible only because of the lie that the black was inferior to the white. Nazism was made possible thanks to the lie that Jews were not fully human. And communism was built on lies. Lenin, the father of Soviet Communism, named the Soviet communist newspaper "Truth" ("Pravda") because truth was what the Communist Party said it was.

The New York Times, CNN and the rest of the mainstream "news" media are becoming our version of Pravda.
Objective truth doesn't exist on the left. The universities have already declared "objective truth" as essentially an expression of "white privilege." See what happens to a student who says in class, for example, that "men cannot give birth."

The public self-debasement demanded of anyone who differs with the left -- like New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees just did when he said not standing for the national anthem desecrated the flag and those who have died for it -- happens almost daily. The only difference between this and what dissidents underwent during Mao's Cultural Revolution is that the self-debasement here is voluntary -- thus far.

Last week, when this Jew saw a store in Santa Monica with a sign reading "black-owned business" so as to avoid being destroyed, it evoked chilling memories.

That's how bad it is in America today.

Town Hall, April 4, 2019: American college is terrible and, as a society, we should stop doing it – at least how it is being currently done. The greatest benefit of a system where most citizens are pushed to get college educations, whether they truly need and want one or not, would be a society of really smart, informed, and engaged citizens. Do you see that happening?

No, you do not.

Instead, we have a bunch of people who are dragged down by crushing debt after wasting years of their youth chasing a piece of paper that often has no relationship to these graduates’ futures. Compounding the failure is how these grads march off campus infatuated with ridiculous commie notions abhorrent to a free people. The college system is a disaster – an expensive disaster that picks our pockets as well as those of the suckers who matriculate – and we should stop tolerating it. Time for conservatives to reform academia the hard way, and by “reform” I mean, “Destroy it, sow the campuses with salt, and rebuild academia into something that isn’t useless.”

In times past, infectious diseases spread by rats and polluted water, respiratory diseases due to air pollution, and the absence of space to grow food to avert starvation during times of unemployment, all reduced the life expectancy and fertility of urban populations relative to that of country dwellers.

Today, cities are healthier places to live, but they still impose a severe restraint on human reproductive success due to the high cost of urban living, particularly the costs of housing and transportation.

Rising Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide Concentration, Part III: Induced Stupidity and the Decline of the West

There is no known physiological reason why doubling, tripling or raising by a factor of ten the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide would significantly affect human physical or mental performance. Humans in submarines, aircraft, and office buildings survive and appear to function normally in atmospheres containing many times the present atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration (1). Only at concentration above 10,000 parts per million do effects on performance become obvious, and suffocation due to carbon dioxide occurs only at concentrations many times higher still.

But two recent papers from top research labs show that, contrary to expectation, rather small increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration sharply impair some vitally important cognitive capacities.(2,3) In both studies, experimental subjects were tested on various types of cognitive tasks ranging from mundane busy work to the exercise of initiative, and strategic thinking. What they found was that over a range of carbon dioxide concentrations commonly occurring in air-conditioned school and office buildings, performance on tasks requiring higher cognitive functions were significantly or catastrophically reduced at the higher carbon dioxide concentrations, whereas performance on more mundane tasks was largely unaffected.

These papers, which deserve reading in their entirety by anyone with a serious interest in human intellectual performance in general or in their own performance or that of their subordinates or employees, remind one of the theory that Rome collapsed because of lead in the water due to the extensive use by the Romans of lead-pipe plumbing. Could it be that we in the West are Hell bent for collapse for a similarly mundane reason, in our case the cause being carbon dioxide in the air supply of the air-conditioned buildings in which most decision-makers and professionals now work?

The more one thinks about it the more Donald Trump's insistence that "We are led by very, very stupid people" seems credible. This sad state of affairs could simply be the result of a combination of the carbon dioxide dome over Washington DC, plus inadequate ventilation of the Oval Office and the Capitol.
